Welcome to the site of the Paediatric Neuro-Oncology group at the University of Cape Town. Brain tumours in children are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children. As such we are committed to creating awareness about the condition, offering specialized multidisciplinary care for children affected, and developing research programs to answer important questions and advance our understanding and treatments.
Recent years have seen an explosion of new information about the molecular biology of brain tumours in children that carry great promise to change our therapies for the benefit of children. In South Africa we want to remain on the cusp of these developments and, along with access to expertise and techniques, offer the best opportunities for cure. To do this, we have a multidisciplinary group of paediatric neurosurgeons, oncologists, radiotherapists, pathologists, and radiologists that aims to provide this level of clinical service and research focus.
This website is about the clinical service and research initiatives developed at our institution. Our mission is to make available information about this service for parents and referring clinicians, our educational resource initiatives, and our research projects.
